DescriptionThe collection contains both physical and digital material consisting of posters, flyers, backstage passes, photos, badges and event programmes from various benefit concerts in the early 1980s to the early 1990s of which Daryl Upsall was the promoter for the various causes.

These include: the Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign, Red Wedge (Labour Party), Fight the Alton Bill (Women’s Right to Choose), The Miners Strike, and The Terrence Higgins Trust (HIV/AIDS). These events featured almost all the leading stand up comics of the era sharing the stage with famous actors (such as Julie Christie, Emma Thompson, Robbie Coltrane, Stephen Fry), famous musicians (e.g. Sinead O’ Connor, Billy Bragg, Tom Robinson, Style Council, and Elton John) and with writers such as Harold Pinter and John Le Carre. The venues range from comedy clubs, theatres, Town Halls to large theatres such as the Usher Hall and the Edinburgh Playhouse. The Billy Bragg and Porky the Poet (aka Phil Jupitus) “Jobs for Youth” event that Daryl Upsall organised and tour managed for the Labour Party was a huge sell out success and led to the musicians collective 'Red Wedge', which involved musicians and stand up comedians uniting and performing concert tours across the UK in support of the Labour Party.
