| Admin history | Henry Normal is a writer, producer and poet. Born in Nottingham in 1956, Henry started his career as a performer and poet in Manchester and the North of England. He began his career television in 1991, co-writing and script editing on the Mrs Merton show and Mrs Merton and Malcolm, and co-creating and co-writing the first series of the Royle Family. He has co-written a number of productions with Steve Coogan, including Coogan's Run, Tony Ferrino, and all three of Steve's live tours. In 1999 he founded Baby Cow Productions Ltd along with Steve Coogan, which went on to create many popular shows including Gavin and Stacey, Nighty Night, The Mighty Boosh, Red Dwarf and Alan Partridge.
Henry retired from producing in 2016, moving on to write and perform a number of BBC Radio 4 shows, as well as writing poetry and stories. He performs at literature festivals around the UK, and founded the Manchester Poetry Festival (now the Literature Festival) and the Nottingham Poetry Festival.
Henry was awarded a special BAFTA for services to television in 2017. He was given a honorary doctorates from both Nottingham Trent University and Nottingham University. He is a Patron of Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature. |
