DescriptionMaterial produced by Sheffield Popular Theatre (SPT), a theatre group established in late 1983 by Warren Lakin and Bill McDonnell (originally); later ran by Warren Lakin, Linda Smith and Dave Humphreys (1984) and then by Warren Lakin, Linda Smith and Mike McCarthy (from 1986). Sheffield Popular Theatre was a popular theatre and variety entertainment company which aimed to involve local people in the researching, writing and performing of entertainment. Linda Smith directed many of the plays. The folder contains promotional brochures on Sheffield Popular Theatre (c1988), flyers for productions 'Deepest Red: from the streets of South Yorkshire to the Spanish Civil War - A Tribute to Tommy James' (Margaret Barraclough, Sylvia Jones, Mike McCarthy, directed by Linda Smith, produced by Warren Lakin), Absolutely Attercliffe (directed by Mike McCarthy and Linda Smith, produced by Warren Lakin), posters for events called 'Escape Aid 2' aimed at young people unemployed (organised by Commonground Resources Centre and Sheffield Popular Theatre), and a copy of 'Signs' (a South Yorkshire Entertainment Magazine) which featured a piece on SPT in it's 1987 second issue.
