DescriptionVarious documents concerning Johnson' position in the Church of England and his standing among the Canterbury Chapter in the 1940s. They include Johnson's letter to The Times in December 1947 in which he reconciles his Christian beliefs with his political statements; a statement from Archbishop Fisher in late 1948 or early 1949 dissassociating himself from Johnson's views and explaining why he cannot be removed from office; and a personal letter from Archdeacon Sargent in April 1941 offering some personal sympathy to Johnson. Correspondence regarding gifts to Canterbury Cathedral. February 1947 and November1949.; Note of a collection of £142 6s for the Russian Red Cross at the Regal Cinema, Canterbury. October 1941.; Correspondence (mainly letters of appreciation) relating to Johnson's book "Soviet Success". 1947 and 1948. It includes the recording of Johnson's gift of the book to the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, V. Molotov in December 1947.; Correspondence with the Duchess of Atholl about the British League for European Freedom. October-December 1949.; Correspondence from the general public both supportive and critical of Johnson's views on Russia. 1949. It includes a letter from a correspondent who won both the VC and the Russian equivalent medal in 1916.;
