Description | Parliamentary Debates (Hansard) House of Commons. 6th series, Vol 48 No 46. Thursday, 10 November 1983. London, HMSO. Weatherill notes the debate on the calling of members, which took place as a result of an article in the Times written by Russell Johnston, who questioned his judgement in not calling a member of both the Liberal and SDP Parties in all debates. Also included is his correspondence with Russell Johnstone and David Steel highlighting their various positions and a transcriipt of an interview with Sir Robin Day on the World at One. However Weatherill, despite this work behind the scenes, resists making a public statement definding his action. The debate shows the anxiety of the Liberal and Social Democrats to be treated as two seperate parties. |
