Description | The film shows the ceremony of the induction and investiture of Sir Sigmund Sternberg, as a Knight Commander of the Pontifical Equestrian order of St Gregory the Great by Cardinal Hume in Westminster Cathedral Hall on 4 March 1986. The film begins with photographs of the Pope as a background and a speech by him in English. This is followed shots of the procession into the Hall, the ceremony of presentation with speeches by Cardinal Hume, the Chief Rabbi, Lord Coggan and Dr Isaac Nevey. These speeches dwell on the unique nature of the occassion, the historic connections between Catholics and the Jewish people. The camera shots show Mr and Mrs Weatherill as guests at the ceremony. The film continues with footage of the reception held in the Archbishop's Throne Room and Sir Sigmund's speech of thanks. The commentary on the video box describes the foundation and work of the Council of Christians and Jews and the International Council of Christians and Jews. |
