Description
The film covers the opening of the Commonwealth Speakers Conference held in Kuala Lumpur and Penang in Malaysia, 5-11 January 1987. The introduction to the film is about Kuala Lumpur and its significance to Malaysia as its commercial and administrative centre. The speeches at the conference opening are shown in full, including a speech by Weatherill as Chairman of the Standing Committee of Commonwealth Speakers, in which he dwells on the freedoms of democracy. The remainder of the film deals with the various receptions and tours by the delegates including a trip to Penang.
