Warren Lakin talks about Commonstage A report from Warren Lakin [WL] for Radio Sheffield made in July 1983. WL talks about Common Stage, a newly formed collective of performers and promotors who aimed to present politically pertinant live theatre, music and other forms of entertainment in the Sheffield area; to set up regular new variety evenings at community centres, pubs, labour clubs, featuring local and national acts to raise funds for selected causes; harness the talents of local performers to form a musical theatre group to perform shows on topical local issues. WL talks about Commons Stage's first event, 'Celebration for Nicaragua' which coincides with the 4th Anniversary of the 1979 revolution; the benefit would take place at Sheffield University Students' Union. Mary Stead from the Sheffield Latin American Solidarity Front talks about events in Nicaragua and why benefits were being held for the country. WL names some of those performing including The Fabulous Dirt Sisters from Nottingham, Mele Antou [ph] (exiled Chilean musicians), Angela Brown, Total Takeover (a women's performance group from Sheffield), and Mark Miwurdz.
