Journey to China 1956 - up to Chungking The diary contains detailed full daily entries, often illustrated with Nowell Johnson's sketches, which recount Hewlett and Nowell Johnson's travels with their children, Kezia and Keren, during a trip to China via Moscow in August and September 1956. Whilst in Moscow between August 1st and August 9th, their itinerary includes attending the Olympic qualifying competition at the New Lenin Sports Stadium and visits to Pioneer camps, state farms etc. Entries for China include visits to more factories and state farms and Rewi Alley's school. There are meetings with Peace Committees and sightseeing at Lanchow, the Tun-huang Caves, Kiuchang. The entry dated September 9th records that Hewlett Johnson preached at the Anglican Church.
