There are two scenes depicted in the background; a clerk working at a desk with the caption, ‘Little Tommy Tomkins at the office (little did “the governor” imagine Tommy’s thoughts were on the St. Leger instead of on his ledgers.’ And a bar scene where we see Tommy leaning against a bar dressed in top-hat and overcoat saying, ‘Now then dear boys & girls. “Shout” I’m in the chair.’ A third inset depicts an inkwell has the caption, ‘With the aid of these two articles Tommy increases his income. But he writes the governor’s name once too often & now he’s grinding up golden corn.’ 1893
