St Dunstan's, South Africa St Dunstan’s was established in England in 1915 by blind newspaper proprietor Sir Arthur Pearson, Bt. GBE. In 1918, after World War I, an after care committee was established in South Africa to care for blinded servicemen returning home. In 1938, the South African organisation became completely autonomous but continues to maintain a close working relationship with its English counterpart, now known as Blind Veterans UK. Today, the charity continues to support those who have lost their sight in the service of their country in war or warlike operations. Files relate to the charity's Ian Fraser Memorial Bursary Fund (in memory of the charity's long-running Chairman) and the John Ellerman Memorial Trust (later the John and Esther Ellerman Memorial Trust) founded in 1974 in honour of John Ellerman II. 7 July 1944-12 September 2008
