How do I make an appointment to view material?
Special Collections & Archives is open to all; our Reading Room is located in the Templeman Library, University of Kent, Canterbury. Please contact us via
specialcollections@kent.ac.uk or 01227 823127 to make an appointment. Please provide the reference number of the material you wish to consult.
Does the catalogue contain all the material in your collections?
The catalogue is a work in progress, and we are currently incorporating information about our collections which is currently only accessible via the University of Kent's
Library catalogue. This includes collections of theatre material (theatrical texts, ephemera, documents and images), wind and watermill collections (photographs and business records), and personal papers. If you cannot find what you are looking for please
contact us and visit the
Special Collections & Archives webpages.
Why can I not see digital images of documents or photographs, or listen to sound recordings, through the catalogue?
The catalogue provides written descriptions of material within Special Collections & Archives but is not designed to specifically provide online access to digital and digitised material. Some catalogue records may have images alongside them, but the majority of material can, at present, only be consulted in the Reading Room.
Where digital images have been made available via the catalogue please be aware that there will be copyright in the images. Permission of the copyright holder must be obtained prior to any use in publication (including on the Web) or broadcast.
All reasonable effort is made by Special Collections & Archive to obtain copyright holders' consent before making digital material available via our catalogue. We would like to ask that any copyright owners who are not properly identified contact us so that we may make the necessary corrections or removals.
If you have cause for complaint about material made available online via the catalogue, please email specialcollections@kent.ac.uk and include the following details:
- the title/reference of the image your complaint refers to
- the details of your complaint
- your name, email address and telephone number
On receipt of a request to takedown material from our websites or catalogue we will immediately remove the material in question whilst the complaint is reviewed.
