DescriptionThis section contains Christopher Calthrop's research into the family history of his great grandfather, Dion Boucicault. Included are the will and burial record of Samuel Boursiquot, the marriage certificate of Anna Darley and Samuel Boursiquot, material relating to Dionysius Lardner (possibly Dion's biological father) and details of Dion's first marriage. Calthrop also made enquiries into the death of Dion William Boucicault, in a railway accident in 1876.
Material includes correspondence (Calthrop's and Dion Boucicault's own), photographs and images, notes and publicity material.
Admin historyDionysius Lardner Boucicault's family had an interesting history. His mother was from the well connected Dublin Darley family; her husband, Samuel Boursiquot, came from a French Huguenot family and it is likely that Dion's father was an Irish academic. Dion Boucicault himself was interested in the history of his family: when in France, he researched his genealogy. There is also evidence of family history research by Dion Boucicault's son Dot, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Access conditionsThis material is available for consultation at the University of Kent's Special Collections & Archives reading room, Templeman Library, University of Kent, Canterbury, CT2 7NU (specialcollections@kent.ac.uk).
