| Description | This file consists of 52 press reports, editorials and photographs from various newspapers on the Soviet Union, the seeds of the Cold War in the late 1940s and early 1950s, and Hewlett Johnson's travels there and stout defence of the regime under Stalin. There are 2 accounts of the forced landing in 1945 in the Russian countryside en route from Tbilisi to Moscow which convinced Hewlett that he was not being shown a false picture of the U.S.S.R by his hosts there. The collection of cuttings includes an interesting one from Moscow News of 1957 showing a map of the world with indication of where Socialist Regimes prevail. |
