The performer is depicted on the cover, in lithograph, in top-hat and black tie. Other illustrations show a woman’s hat adorned with feathers on a stand with the caption, ‘the matinee hat’, two workman taking a momentary break behind a barrier and a sign saying, ‘No thoroughfare’ and an assembled jury of twelve men of various ages and attire with the caption, ‘A British Jury (talk about Barnum’s freaks!). A woman riding a bicycle is also depicted. |
