| Description | Seems to be official document version of RB/DOC/LT/005.
Conveyance of land at Rainham Mark for £800, from Frederick Stephen Chapman Folshom to William Ewart Colyer. Land is sitiated in Rainham Mark, Rainham, Kent, and is enclosed by a quick-set hedge abutting (on the South side of the property) on the High Road from Chatham to Canterbury, and including land up to 163ft north of that. Also includes 56ft on the East and West sides. Includes the tenement thereon ‘formerly known as a Beershop and known as “The Rainham Mark” but now used as a shop’. |
| Notes | Page 1: To the top left of the page are two indented red stamps. Both read ‘Four Pounds’. To the top right is another indented red stamp, reading ‘Inland Revenue Finance Act 1931’ around the outside and ‘Produced’ across the centre, with a crown above and two leaves (perhaps laurels) underneath. Above the title is stamped in purple ink an oval, with ‘The Solicitors’ Acts 1888 & 1919’ across the top, and ‘COMMITTEE’ across the bottom. The centre reads ‘3-MAR 932’. In blue ink inside the oval are written two sets of initials.
To the top left of the page, above the red stamps is scrawled in red pencil ‘£8 [?]’. To the right of it in pencil is written ‘3rd September 1931’. Certain aspects of the text have also been altered in pencil, and at the bottom left of the page in the margin next to the underlined section describing the property involved is a note reading ‘Highfield Villas etc built on first parcels’.
Page 2: Second paragraph marked by two crosses in pencil, and to the left of that paragraph in the margin is a pencil note reading ‘Portion of the Gardens of Highfield Villas included in 2nd parcels’. At the bottom of the page, there are signatures relating to the conveyance:
• ‘F S C Folshom’ (Signed, sealed, and delivered by)
• ‘Arthur Redfern Solicitor, Gillingham, Kent’ (Witnessed the above)
• ‘W. E Colyer’ (Signed, sealed, and delivered by)
• ‘Arthur Redfern’ (Witnessed the above)
To the far right of the page, just to the side of the margin, are two simple red circular seals, around 1.5cm in diameter, with a hatched pattern in the centre. Both seem to stand for seals for Folsham and Colyer, as they are positioned near and in line with their signatures.

Page 4: Serves as “front cover”, and contains the date, title of the conveyance, and those 2 parties involved. Also contains bottom right the address: Arthur Redfern. Gillingham, Kent. In the bottom third of the “front cover” is an oval stamp in purple ink reading ‘The Solicitor’s Acts 1888 & 1919’ across the top, and ‘Committee’ across the bottom. In the centre the date is printed as ‘3 – MAR 1932’, and there are two sets of initials handwritten in black ink around this date.
Also included: Summaries of a ‘Memorandum’ and two Memos detailing William Ewart Colyer’s previous legalities with the land in question. The Memorandum is typewritten, however the two memos are written by hand in black ink, with certain words and phrases underlined in red ink.
Notes the Conveyances and events which led to Frederick Stephen Chapman Folshom owning the land:
• 21st May 1904 – Between George Henry Hone and ‘Frances Folshom his Wife’
• 9th December 1921 – Between James Stewart and Frances Folshom
• 18th February 1929 – Frances Folshom died
• MEMO: Of a Conveyance dated 20th October 1933 – Between William Ewart Colyer and Edward Young
• MEMO: Of a Conveyance dated 8th December 1934 – Between William Ewart Colyer and Charles Moakes |
