DescriptionThe Oxford-Cambridge boat race provided a spectacular feature in Formosa, "The Most Beautiful"; or, The Railroad to Ruin. The 'courtesan play' was classed as immoral by some of the contemporary press, which swelled audiences and provided a much needed success for Drury Lane Theatre, London, where the play was first produced on 5th August 1869.

Material held on this play comprises one programme from an 1877 production at the Adelphi, one periodical from 1869 referencing the play, one flyer advertising a 1994 production and a letter to Christopher Calthrop concerning a possible production, relating to a photocopied script which is also included in the collection.
