Admin historyGeorge Augustus Conquest (1837-1901) was a playwright, theatre manager and acrobat. His father, Benjamin Conquest, acquired the Grecian Theatre and Eagle Tavern in 1851. George helped run the theatre and inherited it upon his father's death. He sold it in1879 before embarking on a tour of North America in 1880 where he performed in The Grim Goblin. On his return to England in 1881 he then took over the Surrey Theatre in Lambeth, which he ran until his death in 1901, after which his son, George Jnr, took over.
