| Description | Sheet music for piano and voice titled, “Break the news to Mother” appearing as two folio sheets (8 pages total). The cover states, at the top, ‘Another hit by the composer of “There’ll Come A Time”’. An inset lithograph depicts a war scene in which two soldiers are kneeling, attending to a fallen comrade while two other soldiers look on. Lyrics to the chorus are presented: ‘Just break the news to mother, she knows how dear I love her, and tell her not to wait for me, for I’m not coming home; just say there is no other, can take the place of mother, then kiss her dear, sweet lips for me, and break the news to her.’ |
