| Description | Page 1: Memorandum of Agreement: William Thomas Rosier and William James Rosier have paid £24 to ‘the Corporation’ (Mayor, Aldermen and Burgesses) in return for the Corporation to ‘maintain in perpetuity in good condition, order and repair the garden space of the graves’ (but not any monuments erected upon the spaces) of graves 81 and 82, section B in Woodlands Cemetery.

Page 4: Serves as “front cover”, and contains the date, persons included in the agreement, and summary of the agreement. Underneath the summary of the agreement is typed the name of the Town Clerk, Robert Booth, and beneath that the number of the agreement is handwritten as ‘40’.
The very bottom of the page is printed with the address: ‘A. Gibbs, 427, Canterbury St., Gillingham.’ And the numbers ‘750/2/33’. |
| Notes | At the base of the Agreement:
The ‘Common Seal of the Mayor, Aldermen and Burgesses of the Borough of Gillingham’: Circular, around 6cm in diameter, dark red with tooth-cut edge, reading ‘Common Seal of the Borough of Gillingham Kent’ around a central coat of arms. Witnesses to its affixation were:
• Henry [?] (Mayor)
• Robert Booth (Town Clerk)
The main document seems to have been a printed template, with the personal details included later.
Page 1: The date has been filled in part by handwriting and in part by typewriter. Details of the persons involved, the amounts exchanged, and the grave details have been typed in. There is one indented red stamp in the top left hand margin of the page. It reads ‘ten shillings’. At the bottom left of the page is a small brown paper (around 1.5x2cm) glued to the document, with ‘ENCLOSURE No 927’ printed in white inside it, and ‘ “JUSTSO” ’ printed underneath that.
Page 4: The date and number of the agreement seem to have been handwritten in ink. Details of the two persons making the agreement with the Corporation, and the graves involved have been typed in with a typewriter. The name ‘Robert Booth’ has also been added in with a typewriter, and have been typed over the top of another name (‘Francis J.R. Mountain’) which has been lined out with the typewriter despite being ostensibly part of the original printed template. Perhaps indicates agreement was made soon after the old Town Clerk was replaced by Robert Booth. |
