| Description | James Stewart sells land at Rainham to Frederick Stephen Chapman Folshom and Frances Folshom for the price of £291 and 5 shillings (paid for out of their joint account).
The land in question is situated at Rainham, Kent, and ‘fronting on a road there and having a frontage thereto of Three hundred and twenty four feet or thereabouts and an average depth of Three hundred and eighteen feet or thereabouts’. It was originally conveyed to Stewart by an Indenture dated 23rd November 1920. [See ‘RB/DOC/LT/021’]. The area in question is coloured in red on a map on the first page. Document also contains stipulation that no part of the land or buildings thereupon be used for the sale or manufacture of ‘any beer wines spirits or other intoxicating liquors to be consumed either on or off the premises or as a Club or Canteen’ where liquors are sold without the permission of James Stewart in writing.
At base of Indenture: Signature of James Stewart. Note that Indenture was signed, sealed and delivered’ by James Stewart by the witness ‘F.C. Boucher, Solicitor, Rochester’. Signatures of ‘Frederick Stephen Chapman Folshom’ (signature scratchy), and ‘Frances Folshom’ (neat hand). Handwritten note that the document was signed, sealed and delivered by Frederick Stephen Chapman Folshom and Frances Folshom in the presence of ‘G.R. Keys’, ‘Clerk to Messrs. Bassets Bruches[?] soon[?] Gillingham Kent’. All three signatures of the vendor and purchasers are followed by identical circular red seals to the right of their names, around 1.5cm in diameter, with a hatched pattern. |
| Notes | Page 1: Bottom half of the page includes a printed map of the area involved, with the area in question coloured red and pencil annotations. The area ruled off for the map measures around 19x14cm, and the scale is given as 1/2500. There is a drawn compass arrow to the top right of the map. The top left of the map is labelled in pencil with ‘£150 [underlined] Council proposed’. There are pencil annotations across the page, including a note at the top of the page reiterating the date. In the left hand margin are two a printed indented red stamps. The top one reads ‘ONE POUND TEN SHILLINGS’ across the top, and ‘12’, ‘21’, ‘12’ across the bottom. The stamp below reads ‘INLAND REVENUE’ across the top, and ’13.12.21’ across the bottom. The centre of the second stamp contains a crown and the words ‘PARTICULARS DELIVERED’. At the top of the page is a small rectangular stamp in purple ink with the initials ‘P.D.S’ within.
Page 3: List of schedules, including stipulations that: ‘4. No hut Caravan or house on wheels shall be placed on any plot.’ ‘6. No brickmaking shall be carried on upon any plot […]’
Page 6: Serves as front and back cover when folded. On “back” is a large stamp in orange (possibly formerly red) ink, reading ‘W 59523’ in the centre, ’13 DEC 1921’ at the base’, and an illegible title (possibly company name) across the top. The “front” cover contains details of the date, title, and those involved in the document.
