| Description | Interview over Zoom relating to the origins and impact of the BAME Online Conference. BAME Online is a fundraising conference developed by and for people of colour which first took place in July 2020. The curator of the conference was Martha Awojobi, of JMB Consulting, and the conference was hosted and organised by Nikki Bell and Simon Scriver of 'Fundraising Everywhere.'
The interview took place on Monday 8th February 2021 and covered the inspiration behind the conference and the impact of the conference on the fundraising community and in particular, people of colour within the fundraising community.
The interview is 28 minutes and 19 seconds long. The interviewer was Beth Astridge, Project Archivist for the UK Philanthropy Archive at the University of Kent.

Track 1 [28:19] Nikki Bell [NB] and Simon Scriver [SS] of ‘Fundraising Everywhere’ and Martha Awojobi [MA] of ‘JMB Consulting’ talk about the BAME Online 2020 conference which took place on 29th July 2020. Description of why NB and SS wanted to hold a fundraising conference for BAME led organisations and people of colour and how they appointed MA as project manager. [02:55] MA describes why she got involved with developing BAME Online 2020 including the challenges facing BAME led organisations during the COVID 19 pandemic. [05:26] MA describes how she consulted with others to gain an understanding of the needs of the BAME fundraising community to deliver the best content. [08:59] NB describes how the creative control for the event was given to MA and how this was an important aspect of the preparation and delivery of the event. [10:52] SS describes the pricing model chosen for the event and why that was important for accessibility. [11:51] NB on the success of the pricing model for BAME Online. [12:51] MA describes the four charities who benefited from the BAME Online conference. [15.38] MA describes how the conference went on the day, including how different it felt to have almost all speakers being people of colour, and the topics covered during the conference. [19:50] MA talks about the impact of the event, and feedback from participants about how the conference made them feel seen. [22:06] NB describes a quarterly Spotlight event which is taking place where organisations get to talk about some of the issues raised during BAME Online in more detail, and how the conference has had an impact on Fundraising Everywhere.
