| Description | Papers relating to the grants awarded for the Wates/St Mary's Primary Health Care Project and the Holistic Medicine Research Programme headed by Dr. Patrick Pietroni. In 1983, a £49,000 grant was awarded over three years for the Holistic Medicine Research Programme. The project aimed to demonstrate that a wider range of therapies such as dieting, meditation, acupuncture, and homoeopathy could be successfully introduced at an NHS Centre. In 1986, The Wates Foundation awarded £150,00 per annum in support of the Wates/St Mary's Primary Health Care Project, initially for three years, but in the expectation of extending further support at the same level. The project aims were to explore and evaluate ways in which primary healthcare can be delivered to deprived areas in addition to the traditional General Practice component. A Steering Committee was established to monitor the progress of the project and report annually to the Trustees. |
